First tree in Boone

So we decided that this year we were going start a new tradition. The day after Thanksgiving we headed out to Boone (instead of black Friday shopping) The Johnson and us rented a little cabin and stayed for one night. This one day/night consisted of some light shopping around, burnt pizza, fighting a wind storm to get a bonfire lit, smores, chasing after two toddlers and finding the perfect tree. There aren't a whole lot of pictures of the Johnson's cause I think some might be used for the Holidays. So I will update later!
So much fun!

These are some pics from Thanksgiving Day!!

A Two day feast in every way

Our Thanksgiving started Wednesday we did some grocery shopping and then ate some chick fi la la. Lilly has moved on to the strips.

Then I cooked my first turkey and corn bread stuffing. We had Katie and Justin join us for dinner. Did I mention I made cherry pie and steamed artichokes.

We stop by my parents on that thankful morning to have some mimosas and then we were off to eat at the Krause's.

We ended the day at my parents house for an oyster roast. It was Casey's first time and I think she kind of liked it!

It was a perfect day and we couldn't be more blessed.

Purple

This weekend was AMAZING!!

It was such an exciting thing to see the support that people have for one another. Sometimes you don’t see it enough.

The Pickell family as well as my mom and I, participated in a 5K on Tybee beach in GA. Yes I did say on the beach!! It was freezing and half the time I couldn’t feel my face. But, it was so glorious to see the amount of friends and family that came to show their support for others that have been diagnosed and fighting Pancreatic Cancer as well as the love ones that have been lost.

Before we decided to do this my brother had asked me “Why people run and walk for cancer?” I couldn’t really answer him until I did it. There’s something about it that is spiritual at least for me it was. It was also about letting things go and realizing that running wasn’t about me and if I could make it or not, it was just about doing something that required nothing but peace and time for someone else.

As I was about to stop and start walking, right after I had passed the 2 mile marker. I saw a lady holding a sign around her neck honoring a brother, husband, father, who they had lost and I decided that my pain was nothing until I had walked in her shoes, and then I prayed the whole way to the end.

This is what I took home from this experience everyone experienced something different. Whether it was time with a brother just walking to the finish or a sister in-laws shoulder to cry on, or just catching up with friends and granddaughters who came out to show their support.

What this weekend did for my family was therapeutic as well as a blessing from our maker.
